WHAT: Responding to a dramatic 1650% increase in the number of hate incidents over last year, and a 25% increase from October to November attributed to the September 11th attacks on America, the Santa Clara County Network for a Hate-Free Community is unveiling a new multi-media PSA campaign aimed at reducing hate incidents and hate crime.
The campaign, designed to promote the reporting of hate incidents and crimes, and to inform residents about the network of support services available to victims of hate crimes, will be unveiled by Supervisor Jim Beall, Jr., Chair of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.
A Public Hearing with Assemblymember Judy Chu will be held immediately following the news conference to receive official reports on the occurrence and response to hate violence, to hear reports from community leaders on the impact in their respective communities, and to provide an opportunity for public testimony from individuals and groups who have direct experience in this area.
