Project Status Report Summary

County Parks and Recreation Commission on November 4, 2009

Staff Report Transmittal to Commission

Draft Equestrian Stables Location Feasibility Study Report

Study Report Slide Show to Commission

Next Steps:

At the November 2009 meeting, the Parks & Recommendation Commission accepted the conclusions and recommendations of the Equestrian Stables Location Feasibility Study. They concurred with the finding of the Study that potential development of new public stables facility at Coyote-Lake Harvey Bear Ranch County Park in San Martin, while desirable, would not be a viable replacement for the loss of facilities at Calero Ranch Stables in San Jose. Staff was directed to extend the duration and scope of the Study and consider other possible sites in new parklands as they become available. They also directed staff to use the Site Evaluation Criteria and Design Program, developed as part of the Study, when considering other potential sites. Further reports back to the Parks & Recreation Commission are pending.

Feasibility Study Purpose:

The Parks & Recreation Department has conducted a Feasibility Study to examine the options for locating a stables facility near Calero County Park or other high equestrian use park in the County’s parks system. The Feasibility Study considered the demand and feasibility for a facility that could support both boarding stables and associated equestrian recreational activities with public benefit such as summer riding camps, instruction, and guided rides.
